Bio
John Jones came to Harford County in
1974 after securing a teaching and
coaching position in the county. He spent
31 years in the classroom complemented
by 25 years of coaching high school
athletes. The last 14 years of his
career were spent at North Harford High School
where he served as the
Cooperative Work Experience Coordinator,
classroom teacher and a member of the
North Harford Hawk football coaching
staff.
In 2005
John was elected
President of the Harford County Education
Association (HCEA). As president
of HCEA, one of the largest teacher
organizations in the United States, John
represented over 3000 teachers. In 2008
he retired with 34 of years of
service to the students and teachers of Harford
County. In addition to
his teaching career John spent two years as a
merchant seaman and one year as
an ironworker.
Prior to moving to
Harford County John was a resident of Sparrows
Point
Maryland, a blue collar, steel producing
community. John graduated from
Sparrows Point High School in 1967. He
received his B.S. from Frostburg
State College in 1971 and a Masters degree from
Johns Hopkins University in
1978.
John is married to Patty Jones, a
lifelong Harford County resident and
30 year educator who currently serves as the
director of the Harford County
Infants and Toddlers program. They have
two children, Derek and Rachel,
both C. Milton Wright graduates who will enter
graduate school this fall in
preparation for careers in health
care.
Residents of the North Harford
community since 1985, John and
Patty live on a ten acre plot of agricultural
land bordering Deer Creek and
county owned conservation land.
