Serve on the Harford County Board of Elections

Apply by October 16 to ensure safe, secure, and fair elections beginning in 2027

The Harford County Democratic Central Committee is soliciting applications for nominees to serve on the Harford County Board of Elections.  Members of the Boardare appointed by the Governor following the gubernatorial election from a slate of nominees submitted by both Central Committees (3 from the Governor’s party and 2 from the opposition) to provide bipartisan oversight to the election process in Harford County. Major duties include conducting the canvass of ballots during election season, designating precinct boundaries and the location of polling places, and otherwise working with the Election Director and Staff to ensure smooth and fair elections. The term of the new Board of Elections begins on the first Monday in June of 2027.

The Board meets regularly on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 5 pm at the Board of Elections Office.

The Central Committee will be accepting applications to fill the position from registered Democrats beginning today. The board will consider applications beginning on Oct. 6 with all materials due by email to chair@harforddemocrats.org no later than Friday, October 16.

If you are interested in serving as a custodian of our most sacred civic ritual, and have been a registered voter in Harford County for 5 years, please send the following in an email to chair@harforddemocrats.org:

  1. Your name, address, and phone number along with a brief summary of your political and election experience. For example, please include campaigns worked, canvassing, phonebanking; and be sure to highlight any experience you have as an election judge or poll worker.
  2. A short statement of why you wish to serve on the Board of Elections (3-4 sentences)
  3. Your availability beginning at 7 pm on Wednesday October 21, for a potential brief interview during the HCDCC’s regular business meeting.

Applicants should also complete the public online application for all gubernatorial appointments

Interviews will be held at the HCDCC’s office at 20 Custis St. in Aberdeen and on Zoom; to attend virtually please register here. The Committee will hold a vote following the interviews to select nominees to be submitted to the Governor’s office immediately upon conclusion of the meeting.
